Dear Liska, yesterday I was on VIA traveling from TO to St-Isidore. The train was going past a junction that, perhaps' leads to Merrickville. Instantly, I had a thought. "I should plan to visit Stanley and Liska next Spring/Summer to share some good memories that we've missed for too long". So I googled "Stanley" and was, instead, shocked to see an obituary, and filled with sorrow for the loss of my friend.. I hope I can come and share a meal with your family and, maybe, practice our memory of Greek before we forget it altogether. Warmest hugs, Dimitri

I am sorry to hear that Stan has left the world and it sounds like he lived well until the end of his life. I have vivid memories of him from my childhood. He was a special person and he touched many around him. My condolences to his family.

It's hard to say goodbye to such a remarkable man. He enriched the lives of those who knew him. Always ready to encourage, help or just listen. His hope in Jesus Christ and the resurrection were central to his life, An incredible amount of love was exhibited by his family and friends as we all celebrated his life. Bye for now dear friend until we share a feast on the other side.

Just the other day I said to myself "Wow, I did a Stan!". I started the coffee pot running without putting the pot under the spout. I remember that on more than one occasion I'd enter the store, dash over to the espresso maker, grab the pot, and stick it under the spout milliseconds before the coffee gushed out. And Stan would remark.- a bemused expression on his face- " you're fast". I have so many good memories that involve Stan. He enriched my life; there were times when Joe and I were having a rough go of it financially, and Stan would be right there, offering to give us whatever we needed. As long as I live, I'll remember his many acts of kindness. ... I haven't lived in Merrickville since May 2008 , but I still miss the good times shared at the Merrickville General Store coffee counter. With great sadness......Nancy Stegmayer
