SAUNDERS, Lionel Edward, peacefully on Sunday, August 04, 2019 surrounded by family at the Smiths Falls Campus, Perth & Smiths Falls District Community Hospital.  He was in his 94th year, a proud veteran of WWII and long -time member of Branch 95 of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Lionel is survived by his daughter Jean (Michel) and son Douglas (Michael).  He is predeceased by his loving wife and best friend of 68 years Grace Evelyn Saunders (nee Beckwith) and two children, Susan (1968) and Bryan (1998).

"Poppa" is deeply missed by his grand-daughters Diane (Jim) and Joanne, great-grandchildren Amanda, Ashley (Justin), Stephanie, Robert, Roxanne and Brayden and great-great grandchildren Amison and Veralee.  The son of the late Frederick Clayton Saunders and the late Elizabeth Evelyn Saunders (nee Edwards).  He is also predeceased by siblings Berniece, Erma, Joan and Ross.  Lionel will also be missed by a very large extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Mr. Saunders is resting at the Lannin Funeral Home at 32 Main Street, East in Smiths Falls, Ontario.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 08, 2019  from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm and on Friday August 09, 2019 from 9:00am - 10:00am.  Funeral services will be held at the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 2 George Street, South, Smiths Falls, Ontario at 11:00am.  Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.  Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 95, Smiths Falls, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 95, Smiths Falls would be appreciated.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lannin Funeral Home.  Online condolences available at www.lannin.ca
