In Memory of Thomas (Tom) Rimmer
1921-2021
Tom Rimmer of Merrickville, passed away peacefully at Arbour Heights in Kingston on Monday, October 18th in his 100th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth. Cherished father of Mike (Hilary), Christopher - predeceased (Debbie), David (Lisa), Nigel (Louise), Tracy (Richard), Sherry, Christina (Doug), Stephen and Michael. He will be forever missed by his 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He also has many dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Thomas Rimmer, aka Tom, was born on Nov 3 1921 in a small town on the Lancashire coast of England. At the age of 14 he joined the RAF as a cadet at a time when the 2nd world war began, and as a cadet he found himself on a beach in France and became part of the famous evacuation of Normandy. As you all know, Tom had an amazing memory and was even able to recall the name of the boat that rescued him from that beach. “The Daffodil” Tom later became a Squadron Leader flew in Lancaster Bombers for the remainder of the war. Tom spent 3 years in Pakistan helping in that country’s Air force development. In 1956 Tom then brought his family to live in Canada where the Rimmer family expanded to what it is today. Tom was famous for his recital of poems, his wedding speeches, and recollections of the past. Tom’s favourite movie was the original version of the Battle of Britain and his favourite singer was Vera Lynn.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at Lannin Funeral Home in Smiths Falls on Saturday November 6, 2021 from 1 PM until the time of the service at 2 PM. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 in Smiths Falls following the interment.

Provincial Covid-19 restrictions require the wearing of masks inside the funeral home and graveside with social distancing required by all those not from the same household. The number of attendees may be limited due to capacity restrictions.
