SMITH, David William August 28th, 1957 - January 03rd, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that our family has to announce the loss of David William Smith, on the evening of January 03rd 2022,while under care in the ICU of the Ottawa Queensway Carleton Hospital. After a brief but extremely hard fought battle against Stage 4 Cancer, David passed away peacefully in his 64th year surrounded by the love of his family. David loved his family and community. He very much enjoyed hockey and was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan! He was one you could always count on for a good laugh with his quirky sense of humour or sage words of advice. David was also a yearly member of the Smiths Falls Cruise Night Car Club. He could often be found alongside his loving Soulmate Laura Reeves at one of the many car shows and cruises in the Eastern Ontario area showing their prized 1963 Volkswagen Beetle “Bee 63”. David and Laura could also be found enjoying their time together at one of the many music and/or art festivals that our region has to offer. David had a great passion for music, especially the blues. Another one of David’s passions was his love for photography. He very much enjoyed what nature and the life surrounding him had to offer. He had a very special eye when it came to the other end of a camera lens. David spent his early years living and working at CFB Uplands, Ottawa South and later at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. David was predeceased by his mother Joan Smith(Crooks) 1995, his father Jack Smith 2015 and his sister Sharon Sabourin 2006. David will be deeply missed by his devoted Soulmate Laura Reeves and family. As well as their 3 four-legged companions: Tucker, Chico and Sadie. David will also be deeply missed by his daughter Kasandra Smith , Johnny Foster and his grandchildren, Dawson and Isla. His sister Seana Mayhew-Smith, Brad Poirier and his Godchildren/Niece and Nephew Emily and Kyle Mayhew-Smith.(Jasper, ON). David will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his cousin and best friend Dale Poirier and his wife Jeannie. (Brantford, ON) As well as his Aunt Jean Poirier-Lacroix and family. (Brantford, ON/Kelowna, BC) and his aunt Shirley Johnson(Leamington, ON).
