Hugh was born at the Greenhorn homestead, in Phillipsville, Ontario, to Alexander and Josephine Morrison on January 21st, 1939. Hugh attended Athens High School before beginning a career with Ontario Hydro in Geraldton, Ontario. Hugh worked for the company from 1957-1993, starting as a lineman and retiring as an area manager of northeastern Ontario. He actively participated in the Geraldton community where he met and married the love of his life, Diane. Geraldton Minor Hockey was blessed to have Hugh behind the bench for many years. He also sang for years in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church choir. Upon retirement, Hugh and Diane relocated to Lombardy after living and building a life together with their families and friends in Geraldton and northern Ontario. As a member of the Lombardy Golf Course, Hugh could often be found hanging out with his friends and grandchildren on the greens. He enjoyed carting many of the kids around on his golf cart. The neighbourhood handyman, Hugh, could always be found lending a hand to others, trimming trees, plowing snow, cutting grass, or fixing an electrical problem. He was a constant chauffeur for family and friends. He loved to play cards with his grandchildren after a family dinner. Hugh enjoyed singing, telling jokes, and dancing in the kitchen with his wife. He shared his pool with his children, their families, and the friends of their families. Hugh’s pool was a welcome place for all. He participated in senior’s bowling, volunteered at the Smiths Falls Food Bank, the Smiths Falls and Perth Hospital auxiliary, and was a dedicated volunteer of Trinity United Church’s property committee and choir. Hugh is survived by his wife of 59 years Diane, Lombardy, his sons, David (Suzanne), Athens, Murray (Tania), Thunder Bay, and daughter, Jennifer Strickland, Lombardy. He is the proud papa of grandchildren Kathryn (Filipe), Jessica, Noah, Dominique, Nicholas, Nathaniel, and Ava, and great-grandson, Lucas. He leaves behind two sisters, Mary (William) Weekes, Smiths Falls, and Linda (Steve) Heffernan, Athens, as well as sisters-in-law, Maybelle Gair, Thunder Bay, Rosemary (Ken) Kurish, Geraldton, and Caroll-Ann Gair, Cobourg. He is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Josephine, his sister and brother-in-law, Colleen and Robert Smith, and his mother-in-law, Myrtle McInnis. Hugh’s many nieces and nephews will greatly miss their uncle’s unconditional love and friendship. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church, 41 Market Street North, Smiths Falls, K7A 2E7. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Leeds Grenville Paramedic Services, the Smiths Falls Fire Department, and the Ontario Provincial Police for their care and compassion.
