Dear Libby, I'm so sorry for your loss. Ron was unfailingly kind, generous & humourous with me over the years I had the honour of knowing him. I will remember him (& YOU of course) most fondly.

I was shocked when Gary called me last Wednesday to kindly let me know his dad had passed away. My mind flashed back to the summer of 1980 when I lived and worked on the Toop farm. I have fond memories of very interesting and enlightening conversations being had as we all sat down for supper. I will never forget Dr Toop's great humour and knowledge of literature, history and farming. My condolences to a wonderful family.

Like Daryl, I also started my teaching career in alternative education working with Ron and learning from his everyday examples of kindness and humour. He was a wonderful mentor to me and to so many other teachers and educational/instructional assistants who had the good fortune to work with him. He inspired many teachers and students alike throughout his career. My sincere thoughts and condolences go to Libby and his family. I feel very lucky to have worked with him and to have known him.

Ron was a mentor to so many. I had the good fortune to begin my career in education working with and learning from him at Smiths Falls Alternative School. He was a special person who connected with everyone; students, teachers, parents, educational assistants, visitors. He was able to speak carefully and directly at the same time, to exact the best learning experiences from all of his students – academically, socially or personally. There were no learning boundaries. He was a special and gifted educator, and he will be missed.
Love and condolences to Libby and family.

Deepest sympathies to Ron's family. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Ron, but I did visit the family cemetery (Forbes) last year while researching my ancestry. Ron and I were 2nd cousins 3x removed - related through our Purcell lineage. Much love, Michelle (nee Adey) Rickard
