Grandma shared a love for our local hockey associations, Smiths Falls Bears being the #1 favourite. This also included a love for the Boston Bruins. It gave warmth the day she passed as I turned on the TV that evening to see the Bruins playing the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although the Bruins did not take the win, I knew somewhere up there she was watching that game and probably shaking her fist! The sky parted the next day and a beautiful light shined down through the clouds, I knew she made it on her journey and would be forever looking over us from above.
Hockey is always something grandma and I could talk about, she always wanted to know how my girls' season(s) was going. 'You tell those girls to show those boys how it's done, how to play hockey, girls are just as good as boys!'
Christmas gatherings of us playing road hockey on the street with Uncle Charlie, onion dip and TANG in a glass jar, you can't make those memories up they are forever held tight in our hearts.
Grandma may not have been the tallest woman in our family, but she defiantly was used as our measuring stick for us kids! Of course, aunt Barb was right there too because that was the goal, to be taller than Grandma and aunt Barb -mission accomplished, by an inch or too ;)
Grandma was a woman that needed very little to enjoy life. Her family was her life. Her spunk and spicy comments will leave a mark on all of us. I can't thank her enough for raising my dad to be the man he is today; his patience, determination and love is a part of her.
Grandma you will forever be in my thoughts. Shine your hockey spirit in heaven and be at peace knowing we will carry you in our thoughts and memories.
With love your granddaughter, Ashley

To my Grandma Saunders.
What can I say...you were one of a kind, you had to know you and anybody and everybody loved you! You were always the life of the party, "Mean Jean the dancing machine" , you had good advice to listen to and you weren't afraid to stick to your guns when needed to. You always made the best of the cards you got dealt with in life. You were always there for me. It was so nice to grow up with you down the street. I am so fortunate to have known you for almost 44 years this November. I was always very proud to call u my grandma and always will be. I love you always and forever. Your granddaughter Emily.
also I will keep an eye on Scott and Jason for you!
