WWII Veteran Suddenly at Van Horne Manor, Smiths Falls on Monday September 20th, 2010. Helen Charlotte McKenna (nee OGrady) in her 93rd year. Daughter of the late Joseph J OGrady and Mary Charlotte Kilroy. Predeceased by husband William and son Chris. Loving mother of Joanne of Ottawa, Desmond (Judy) of Perth, Canice (Olga) of Rideau Ferry, Maureen (Murray) of Ottawa, Hugh (Julie) of Red Deer and Gerald of Ottawa. Cherished grandmother of Tricia (Andy Frias), Sarah, Marek McKenna, Kimberly and Kevin newton, and Shayla McKenna. After Graduating from the Ottawa General Hospital, Helen moved to New York City and nursed at the New York Presbyterian Hospital prior to going overseas to serve in Britain during the second World War. After Marrying in 1946 she moved to Merrickville and raised her family where she worked as a RN at the St. Francis Hospital and Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff and friends at Van Horne Manor for their care and thoughtfulness. To Celebrate Helens life, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church on Friday September 24, 2010 at 11 AM. Interment St Anns Catholic Cemetery, Merrickville. Donations in memory of Helen to Perth and Smiths Falls Hospital in recognition to the wonderful care she recieved.
