David and I were close friends during our carefree teens and into our twenties.Betty attended elementary school with him and we shared many happy youthful activities.Indeed,he was the groomsman at our wedding. We were truly sorry to learn of his illness and passing but will remember him as a fun loving friend with a strength of character ,and strong social values who loved country life but took the road less travelled.I had copious letters he wrote me during his two adventures into the far north;yet, recall him telling that he built his first house at the cross roads nears his parents because he always thought a house should be there. As we married, raised families and took different vocational paths we seldom saw each other, but two poems I always associated with him I think capture his philosiphy as we knew him-- Two roads diverged in a yellow wood And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent into the undergrowth. Then I took the other,-- Because it was grassy and wanted wear Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- Took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference The other is simply entitled"David"by the Canadian Earl Birney and is too lengthy to quote, but I always felt the David in the poem demonstrated the stength of character of the David we knew. Our sympathy goes out to Sheila, his son Alan and the Sansome family for their loss, but trust they will cherish David's contributions to society and family
