Passed away peacefully on March 28, 2011 at Rosebridge Nursing Home, Jasper. Harold Robert Nichol, age 84 years. Beloved husband of Lois Nichol. Dear father of David (Diane) Nichol, Cathie (Dale) McCabe of Smiths Falls and Stephen (Rosemary) Nichol of Almonte. Dearest Grandpa to Monica, Bryan, Darla, James, Nick (Allie), Lindsay (Andy), Devin (Melissa), Jason. Great Grandpa to Owen. Brother of Margaret (Bill) Fowlie. Pre-deceased by his parents, David W Nichol and Anna Bella Nichol (Hewitt) and his brother Lloyd Nichol and his sister Mary Nichol. Harold was the proud recipient of the Canada 125 medal for his service to his community in Smiths Falls through his volunteerism with the Rideau Canal Museum, former chairman of LACAC, Smiths Falls Historical Society and Co Founder of the Heritage House Museum. Honourary life member of Ducks Unlimited. 25 years of service to Communications Research Centre, as a pattern maker Harold assisted with development of Canadas first satellite and continued on this production series from Alouette I through to the conclusion of the Isis series of satellites. Harold a renowned songbird carver continued the family legacy of wood carving. He was the proud recipient of the 1986 Ward Foundation World Champion Feather carving competition 1st place ribbon. The feather resides in the Ward Foundation Museum in Salisbury, Maryland US along with several of his fathers decoys. Family and friends may call at Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Thursday March 31, 2011 for visitation from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Friday April 1, 2011 at 11 AM. Interment Maple Vale Cemetery. Donations in memory of Harold to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated.
