Obituary of William Edward Moore

Peacefully at home in his sleep on October 11, 2016 in his 95th year. Bill is survived by his loving war bride of 70 years, Marjorie, and his children William (Susan), Katie Christie (Jim), Mike (Cathy), Patrick (Patricia), and daughter-in-law Cyndie Summers. Also survived by his sisters Helen Greenlees and Marjorie Thompson. He was predeceased by his son Randolph, brother Reginald, and sister Francis. Adored Grandpa Bill to 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Cherished Uncle Bill to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Bill had a long and distinguished career in the Canadian Armed Forces (RCEME), honourably serving overseas in both World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1967. Bill was recently presented the French Legion of Honour, the French Republic’s highest honour, for his contribution to the liberation of France, including landing on Juno Beach during the D-Day invasion. Bill was a lifetime member of the Minden Masonic Lodge # 253. Bill was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, enjoying hunting at the Wee Whistle Hunting Camp, playing softball, playing and coaching hockey and serving as Past President of the South Carleton Intermediate Hockey League. Bill enjoyed many passions during his long life, including breeding, showing and judging Walker Fox Hounds, member of the Wolfe Island Fox Hunters Association, painting many outdoor scenes in oils, and playing Euchre with his family and friends.
Marjorie and family would like to thank all those who made it possible for Bill to fulfill his wish of remaining in his home, including Veteran’s Affairs, Dr. McCallan and Amanda, Dr.Jones, Dr. Zakhem and the caregivers who travelled daily to the house to look after him, especially David, Amy, Michelle, Peggy and Lisa.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 10:30am until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 12:00 o'clock.
