Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Phyllis Eleanor WALKER completed her life on April 30 at her home in Merrickville at the age of one hundred. Miss Walker studied nursing at the Montreal General Hospital, where she enjoyed a long career, serving for many years as head-nurse of the Outpatients Department. In 1972 she retired to her native village, subsequently playing an active role for nearly four decades through Heritage Merrickville and the Historical Society. Phyllis had an abiding affection for Italy, where she served during WWII in the Canadian Army Medical Corps, and was well known in her later years for her wire-haired fox-terriers. Phyllis Walker was predeceased by her sisters, Lura Holmes in 1988 and Iola Mary (Potter) in 2003, her brother-in-law Joseph C. Potter in 1992, and her niece Martha Slattery in 2005. She is survived by her nephew Dr. Paul Potter, his wife Dr. Beate Gundert, and her great-nephew Christopher Slattery. A gathering in Phyllis' memory will be held at her home on Sunday, 20 May at 2 pm.
