Passed away at the Smiths Falls Hospital on Monday June 4, 2012 at the age of 81 years. Rita was born in Brockville to the late Carman and Carrie (Woods) Brayton on April 4, 1931. Rita spent most of her childhood in Corktown where she was raised with love by her aunt and uncle, the late Berta and Dan Boyd. In 1950 Rita Married, “the love of her life”, the late John Shields (retired CPR engineer). Rita will be sadly missed by her three loving daughters, Judy (Brian) Kelly of Lombardy, Sharron (Bill) Stilwell of Smiths Falls and Cheryl Anne (Jack) McConnell of Jasper. Rita is predeceased by two infant daughters April Dawn and Heather Laurine. Cherished grandmother to four grand daughters Carrie Kelly of Ottawa, Angela Kelly (Mark Hazell) of Kingston, Rebecca Foster (Mark) of Smiths Falls and Sara Stilwell (Mike Ferguson) of Brockville. Rita is a proud great grandmother of Noah Foster, Darien Foster, Kate Hazell and Landon Ferguson. She is survived by her sister Laurine Brayton and her brother Wayne (Paddy) Brayton, both of Brockville as well as sisters-in-law Pat Shields of Merrickville and Betty Theriault of Ottawa. Rita is predeceased by her stepmother Donalda Brayton of Brockville and by her fiancé, Ross Allen of Smiths Falls. Friends may call at the Lannin Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday June 6, 2012 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Celebration of Life will take place in the chapel on Thursday June 7, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Interment at Vandusen Cemetery. Donations in memory of Rita to the Cancer Society or the Smiths Falls Food Bank would be appreciated Rita’s family wishes to provide a special thank you to the staff of Van Horne Manor, Smiths Falls for providing Rita with care over and above what was asked.
