you left behind a good family they will keep your spirt alive ..I never got to tell you what a role model you were in my life when I met you I was 12 yrs old and getting into trouble ..That day you waked into The Lamplighter's Hall You made your mark not growing up with a father in my life.. My mother did the best she could do and you my Sir were that Backbone and the kick in the pants I needed ..I learnt Disipline and Honour and Strength from you ...I never got the chance to say thank you as life takes us different places so with this mess that I give I hope that u can hear what I'm saying ...Thank You and now it's your time again to make that mark up in heaven like you did for me ... Dear Fran, Dana and Catharina, so sad to hear of Rick's passing.
I still hold very fond memories of the 2 years (88-89) I spent as a staff member of the Lampliters, and clearly remember how proud Rick was when the corps won the A60 championship at the 1989 Nationals. But what I cherish the most is Rick and Fran opening up their home to us Frenchies from Ottawa. You treated me like a member of the family, and I have the fondest memories of the evenings spent sitting at the kitchen table after practices and talking about anything and everything over a cold beer.
Rick was such a positive influence in so many people's lives, mine included. I consider myself lucky to have known Rick and his family, and maybe someday we can sit at the big kitchen table up in the sky over a cold beer and talk about how great life was.
RIP Rick, you will not be forgotten.

Sincere best Wishes to the Family:
I first knew Rick when I was 12, and joined the O.Y.B. Lampliters Drum and Bugle Corps to play a bugle. That began what would be THE thing that made my youth so much better. Many trips, performances, winnings, lots of fun. Four years of great preparation, INDEED, before a few of us then moved on to JUNIOR 'A', in Ottawa (Cadets Lasalle), in 1968.
Rick was a dedicated marching designer and coach and then a Drum Major. He kept us in line, in more ways than one, always carrying authority as a 'Cole', which was THE spirit of the corps. He was a lot of fun! Infectious laugh, big smile and all business, too. He LOOKED the part of a performer on parade or the field, indeed!
He was always good to me, and with my (drummer) brother Peter. (Pete passed away from leukemia, at his Palm Coast home, in Florida, May 7, 2016. He was just 62. If others did not know?) I have not seen Rick since 1999, in Belleville, at, 'yes' a drum corps performance there. We are all getting older!
I see he has left a large family to carry on the Cole name, and he was much loved, certainly.
Well done, Rick!
"Mark Time, hooooow!", --- Oh, I've heard that 10,000 times, at least, he loud enough to fill a whole stadium field! Never to be forgotten... NO ONE was happier than he, when we won our competitions. And, we did!
Thank you.
Patrick Crawford, in London, ON
and for Samantha (15) at home, Neil (22), Toronto, and Thomas (31) and Sarah Crawford, London. (39)
[My 4 children, who might understand that music truly makes a life, too!]

Fran and Family,
We were very saddened to hear of Rick's passing!
Everyone knew how much he cherished his family; that always stood out openly in his conversations - he was proud of all of you.
We know how much he will be missed by so many people, as I am sure you have already discovered the response he had received over the years, all related to his friendliness, kindness, and generosity. He was a man around whom people felt most comfortable.
My (Don's) association with Rick first goes back to when I delivered the Toronto Telegram (or, was it the Ottawa Journal) to his Mom and Dad back in the late "50's." Not to mention, I knew your Mom and Dad too, Fran, and your brother and sister..I remember all these folks with fondness, and for me this adds even more sadness to Rick's passing.
And finally, in our working lives, Sheila and I had the pleasure of working with Rick at BPH in Brockville!
Our prayers go out to you at this sad time. May God Bless and comfort you!
Don & Sheila Cooper, Kingston
