The visit to Auntie Joan in the summer of 2022 was remarkable. She told us of her days, writing, walking and having many visitors to chat with. We remembered my last visit and she reminded me of the time when my youngest son was trying to grab all the cookies from her tin that he could. I couldn’t remember but Joan sure could. My mother and I showed her how to FaceTime calling my sister Kathi and with that we had many laughs that day.
I loved her beautiful writing, swimming in her pool when I was young and playing with her dog Tipsy. I can hear her now chatting up all her siblings up in the sky.
We learned from Auntie Joan. We loved her. Sending love to all reading this as she loved a lot.

Helene and I enjoyed very much meeting Joan during our visits to our nearby farm on the Merrickville Road. We appreciated her chearfulness and enthusiasm for life. We had lively conversations with her on a variety of subjects including relativity theory over fish and chips ( her favourite dish) at the Goose & Gridiron in Merrickville. She new my interests and gave me a very interesting biography of Albert Einstein.

Much sympathy to you Monica & Ron, Adrian & Marsha and your families. What an incredible person dear Aunt Joan was. We have fond memories of visiting her and chatting. We loved every minute of our visits through the years. Always so welcoming and catching up on the family news. As Chris's Godmother, not a year went by without a card for him on his birthday with a long letter inside covering every page of the card with her printing. She will be deeply missed. We loved her dearly.

When my husband and I moved to Smiths Falls in 2019 we were delighted to meet Kathleen our next door neighbour. She was so warm and welcoming and had the best stories. We learned so much about the history of our house and the town. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humour. She loved animals and nature and lived with an open heart. We both feel honoured to have known Kathleen and she will live in our hearts forever.

My name is Larry Taylor. I have been blessed to have been Kathleen’s neighbour since September of 2019. She was so unique. Most of all I marveled at her enthusiasm. She was a beautiful writer and I will always treasure some of her kind notes . I would take her garbage to the street and we would always chat. She was still sharp with a delightful sense of humour. Renee and I will miss her but never forget her.
