Howie and Lynn are the greatest people ever and i never wanted to leave their house. I would beg my mom everytime she came to pick me up to stay longer.
Howie was a great man. I spent alot of time at the Carkner farm growing up and Howie gave me my first nickname "purple" lol
I wore all purple to the barn one day which he thought was pretty silly including purple makeup lol i was forever purple from that day on lmao Everytime i walked into the house he was "hey there purple" it always made me feel so welcome.

Lynn, Jack and Tracy,
What can I say that would help?
Memories, ha, ha. Love them! We as a family Bruce, Cathie, Malcolm and Graham, have lots of memories being in the Carkner home and being in the barn. As our kids and Howie and Lynn's kids were young we would go to the barn and the kids would start to run around and Howie would stop them in their tracks, and warn them if you don't stop running in the barn you have to leave. Grannie was there at that stage and she would say you are scarring the cattle, so listen to him.
My thoughts of Howie was watching him walk from the house to the barn with his slow gate, it always looked like he was thinking!
Howie loved company and he would talk for hours at least it seemed it. But the cows had to get milked so if you wanted to stay and visit and you were always welcome, you had to follow this hard working man around the barn, then come to the house for coffee and always dessert!
I will never hear the word "slugger" again without thinking of Howie and having a laugh. When I played baseball seems like a hundred years ago I had hit a home run and he nicked named me that and it stuck.
Thanks Lynn, Jack, Tracy and Howie for all our memories
Bruce, Cathie, Malcolm and Graham

Howard will always be remembered for his long-standing commitment to the Grenville 4H community. As a member, I can’t recall giving reasons on the hay class to anyone but him over the years! He has left some big shoes to fill.
Our sincere condolences to the Carkner family

Although its been may years since I last saw Howie, I have very fond memories of him from when I was a kid. He was always stoic and serious, but kind to us kids running around the barn.

My heartfelt condolences to Lynn and family.
Howard and I were roommates at Kemptville College for two years. One could not have a better roommate and friend during that time. No arguments, no fights, just good times and good fun.
Howard was a quiet guy at that time and went home to the family farm every weekend. He loved the farm. It was no surprise that when we graduated in “68” he returned to the home farm.
Well the farming is over good friend, you can rest in peace.
We will all miss you.
