RCOC WWII Veteran 1920-2012 Officer in United Nations Truce Supervisory Organization (Seven Days War) Awarded several distinguished military service medals Perry passed peacefully, at home with his family around him. Predeceased by sisters Ardith Leslie, Jean Farrow and Mary Hobson. Forever remembered by his wife Donalda (Donnie), sons Peter (Leanne), Arthur (Lori), Bob (Joy), daughter Cheryl (Kim) and sister Margaret Peacock. Proud grandfather of Jesse (Michel), Christopher (Krissy), Jenna (Rob), Jennifer, James (Terri), Katherine (Jon), Nicole, and Perry Bryson. Loving great grandfather of Kayda, Evangeline and Nicolas. Perry was born in Iroquois Ontario on Sept, 15, 1920. He was the only son of James and Mae (Ellis) Everett. Perry married Donalda Long, of Point Anne Ontario in Sept. 1943. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past Sept. After graduating from Belleville Collegiate, where he was active on many sports teams, Perry turned down a full athletic scholarship to Michigan State University to volunteer as a Private with RCOC in May 1940. After service in Canada and England, he was returned to Canada for officer training. As a commissioned officer he was an instructor at the Canadian Army Battle School in Vernon BC. Recognized for his leadership abilities, he became a battlefield instructor and was returned to front line duties where served in northwestern Europe as a platoon commander with the Lincoln and Welland Regiment. After the war, Perry transferred back to the Royal Canadian Ordinace Corps and served in Kingston Ontario and Camp Petawawa. Perry was assigned to the1st Btn. Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) as their Quartermaster and served with them both in Calgary and then in Germany from 1953 to 1958. In 1958 he was posted to Army Headquarters in Ottawa where his service included 1 year (1966-1967) with the United Nations Truce Supervisory Organization in Damascus Syria and Jerusalem, In 1985 Perry retired to Manotick and then, Smiths Falls to pursue personal interests. He and Donnie have enjoyed many years of fun and family at their cottage on Black Lake. The family expresses sincere thanks for the support provided by the staff of CCAC and the Red Cross. Deep appreciation is expressed to the Department of Veterans Affairs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Salvation Army or the Ottawa Carleton Cancer Clinic. Visitation will be at Lannin Funeral Home, 32 Main Street East, Smiths Falls Ontario. Visitations 7 – 9 PM Friday, June 1 and 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Saturday, June 2.
