I was just looking for my grade 6 teacher online to tell him that he was the best teacher that I ever had and to give him a copy of my book, The Word Not Spoken, about when I lived in Turkey. I am 54.
And I found you, Mr. Hurd, but you have died. So I guess you've already seen the book.
You were a great love of mine, even when I was older and became a teacher--- Thank you Mr. Hurd.

Dear Lynne: I was so sorry to hear of Alan's passing. My most recent memories are seeing you both at Pharmaplus when I was there buying my paper. Alan always gave me such a warm smile and greeting. I liked to think he remembered me from the science specialist courses he taught so many years ago. I loved his teaching style and his good nature, always making science fun. I remember storing the ramps in our garage for many years that we had made in class. I thought of him each time my sons used them for their small cars. May your wonderful memories of Alan sustain you at this sad time. Christine Hesketh

Lynn and Adam and family - Al was a gentle giant at Munster School admired and loved by students and staff. I remember the time he and Lesley and I planted a school garden at the farm with the children and then had to weed and keep it up over the summer. He was a great help with suggestions for the Environmental School tours we did for a few years at the farm. His knowledge of books and activities was endless. A true "gentleman". hugs to all Anne Saunders

We had the privilege of knowing Al while he taught in Richmond. Our son was lucky to have him as a grade 5 teacher there. He was a very kind, interested teacher who our son still speaks of as one of his all time favorite teachers. Stirling Laffin was our uncle and I know he was always grateful that Al had noticed the horses acting strangely one day and went back to investigate and found Uncle Stirling mixed up in the ropes and badly hurt. We are sorry for your loss of a husband an father. Barry and Myra Laffin

Dear Lynne and Adam, On behalf of Dale and myself, we offer our deepest sympathy. Allan was a gifted teacher, a loving husband and a very proud parent. I have many fond memories of his kindness and passion for bringing the wonders of learning to students. I enjoyed his ready laugh and sense of fun. I especially remember meeting him as he zoomed by to work in his dune buggy complete with aviator glasses and scarf flying in the wind. A lovely person whom we will all miss. Patty and Dale
