Quietly at the Smiths Falls Hospital on Thursday, August 7, 2014. Alan is survived by his devoted wife Lynne and his much loved son Adam. Alan was the son of the late Milt and Lila Hurd and brother to Ruth (Horst Klette), Joan, Betty (Sid Karsh), Lorna (Bob Reny) and Glen (Joyce) and his special lifelong friend and chosen brother Bob Gillett (Anne). Alan is survived by many much loved nieces, nephews and chosen nieces and their families. Alan spent many years teaching for the Carleton Board of Education where he instilled a love of science and discovery in his young students. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 12:30 pm until time of memorial service in the chapel at 1:30 pm.
